E-Prop™ Pre Vacuum Sterilization Instructions
Autoclave Sterilization of the E-Prop
The E-Prop™ is reusable and must be sterilized after each use. Wrapped autoclaving is the most dependable and preferred method of decontamination and sterilization. The device should be carefully cleaned before autoclaving to prevent contamination of the plastic surface. After cleaning, the E-Prop should be rinsed thoroughly in distilled water before autoclaving. This will remove chemicals with no appreciable effect on plastics at room temperature that may cause deterioration at autoclaving temperatures.
Flash Sterilization of the E-Prop
Although the wrapped autoclave method of sterilization is recommended, correctly performed flash sterilization is also an effective process for the E-Prop. Follow the autoclave manufacturer’s instructions for loading and arranging the E-Prop for flash sterilization. Since exposure times vary according to sterilizer design, it is important to comply with manufacturer’s instructions for operation. For full heating in the pre-vacuum sterilizer instead of the gravity displacement sterilizers, the E-Prop must reach 270°F (131°C) for a minimum of four minutes. Again, consult the manufacturer’s instructions for specific details on operation. Flash sterilization is considered acceptable for processing the clean E-Prop that cannot be packaged, sterilized, and stored before use.
